2022 STA ANNUAL AWARDS: RECOGNISING DR CARLOS AZPARREN CALVO (SPAIN) AND “ARENA DEL FUTURO” (BREBEMI SpA, ITALY)

As in every year, STA honours outstanding innovations and commitments to transport infrastructures for the future through the STA Innovation Awards, which will be handed over during this 7th edition of the STA Annual Conference, taking place in Brussels on 29 November 2022. The two 2022 Awardees have been selected and will join the conference in person:

Person of the Year is Dr. Carlos Azparren Calvo, who formerly served as Team Leader at the Technical Directorate of the Directorate General for Roads of the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA). STA recognises his contributions to the co-conceptualisation and introduction of various key road safety standards in Spain and the EU, including the pivotal EN1317, which details the testing conditions for road-restraint systems (RRS). Special reference of his initiative is the leadership exerted for the elaboration of Spanish Norm UNE 135 900 regarding MPS’s mounted on safety barriers that later gave birth to the CEN/TS 17.342 technical specification.

The award for the Best Innovation Solution goes to Brebemi S.p.A. for their Arena del Futuro circuit, which field tests revolutionary electric charging with dynamic induction via DWPT (Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer).
