The report examines the role of technology and smart engineering in addressing issues arising from the growth in traffic. The findings are based on desk research and interviews with innovators and subject matter experts.

The STA Chairman, José F. Papí, is one of the 21 international experts that have participated in the interview programme. In his statement, the STA Chairman states “the automated vehicle cannot work unless there is smart infrastructure”, and in addition that the shift in definition of road infrastructure to encompass technology, software and data also means that “building roads now requires a whole other skill set”.
