2023 STA ANNUAL AWARDS: RECOGNISING DR MARIO AYMERICH (EIB) AND “NATIONAL DYNAMIC BARRIER ANAS” (ANAS, ITALY)

As in every year, STA honours outstanding innovations and commitments to transport infrastructures for the future through the STA Innovation Awards, which will be handed over during this 8th edition of the STA Annual Conference, taking place in Milan, Italy on 26 October 2023. The two 2023 Awardees have been selected and will join the conference in person:

Person of the Year is Dr Mario Aymerich, Former Director for Environment and Regional Development, Projects Directorate, European Investment Bank (EIB). STA recognises his contributions remarkable contributions to large-scale infrastructure projects in the transport, urban/regional development sectors and his involvement in PPT operations and Technical Risk Analysis.

The award for the Best Innovation Solution goes to Anas Italy for the design of a concrete road safety barrier National Dynamic Barrier Anas (NDBA), invented by Eng. Nicola Dinnela, as the only international road safety barrier with a working width of 0.74 cm, is certified for two 38-ton heavy vehicle impacts (TB 81). Following the NDBA’s invention, all Italian and international manufacturers had to adapt their products to the new safety standards.
