The 9th edition of the STA Annual Conference & Innovation Awards will take place at the School of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) on Thursday 7 November 2024, from 10:00 to 17:00 CET, in Madrid (Spain) and includes a working lunch during the Award Ceremony of the 2024 Annual Innovation Awards. It promises an excellent opportunity to delve into the digitisation of transportation infrastructures, with insightful sessions and two unique site visits.
2024 STA Annual Innovation Awards Ceremony
Honouring global innovators for their contributions to Smart Transportation Infrastructures.
Ms Emanuela Stocchi, Director of International Affairs at the Italian Association of Motorway and Tunnel Concessionaires (AISCAT) and Vice-Chair of the European Association of Operators of Toll Road Infrastructures (ASECAP), will be awarded as the Person of the Year, for her remarkable contributions to advance sustainable and efficient transportation solutions in Europe and beyond, with a specific focus on the application of the EU taxonomy.
Madrid Regional Government will receive the award of the Best Innovation Solution for the development of of the Special Civil Protection Plan against Floods. Approved in late 2020, the plan provides a strategic framework to manage flood emergencies. It integrates detailed studies of regional hydrology and population vulnerability to coordinate responses effectively, safeguarding citizens and infrastructure.
Driving Change: STA Members Highlighted at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2024
From 16 to 19 March STA Members were present at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2024.
Several STA members, including CSI S.p.a, GDTech Engineering, HEINTZMANN Group, Road Steel Engineering SL & Transpolis participated in the event with dedicated stands, presentations and networking events to represent their companies advancements across a spectrum of initiatives, product lines and best practices toward a more sustainable and efficient path for transportation. Furthermore, Dr José F. Papí, STA’s President, was present throughout the event, highlighting STA’sdedication to collaborating efforts within the transportation industry, and emphasising the importance of collective action in addressing industry challenges.

Driving Innovation: STA’s Impact at TRA 2024 in Dublin, Ireland
From 15 to 18 April 2024, STA and its members participated at the TRA 2024.
Transport Research Arena stands out as Europe's largest research and technology conference focused on transport and mobility. This year, STA and its Members showcased their involvement in two ongoing EU-funded projects: KEYSTONE and SCALE-UP, while actively engaged with attendees to showcase the achievements of its projects, raise awareness, and promote their impact on the wider transportation community.

World’s first carbon-neutral cement plant swaps pure O2 for ambient air
It can capture nearly 100 percent of carbon dioxide emissions generated during cement clinker production.
The construction of the “world’s first carbon-neutral cement plants” has commenced part of a lighthouse project by Thyssenkrupp. The technology deployed enables capturing and reusing CO2 emissions, paving the way for carbon-neutral cement production and marking a significant step forward in the fight against climate change. The cement industry typically produces roughly 830 kilograms of CO2 per ton of cement.
