Key challenges for Smart Transportation Infrastructures: Assesment of results of perception’s survey
28 January 2019
The Smart Transportation Alliance (STA) has released the Discussion Paper “Key Challenges for the Smart Transportation Infrastructures of the Future - Results of Perception’s Survey”. The paper reports the outcomes of on-line surveys targeted at the transportation expert community that were conducted between March and October 2018, collecting globally 371 answers.
The aim of the surveys was to collect informed perceptions on the key challenges involved in the four different domains of the Smart Transport Infrastructures of the Future (Mobility, Safety & Security, Sustainability, Financing) in order to identify current hurdles and in addition priorities of intervention.

The impact of space data on smart transport & logistics
31 January 2018
Transport infrastructure is founded upon the communication of data. With the addition of satellite technology, this can become far more reliable and allow for increased innovation opportunities. Both infrastructure and vehicles alike will exchange large amounts of data allowing them to respond to changes instantaneously. This can either be autonomously or from a remote location, such as transport hubs.
Here, we explore the impact of space data on smart transport and logistics, as well as a number of current and potential future uses.
Smart Transportation Market worth over $130bn by 2024
18 January 2019
Smart Transportation Market size is set to exceed USD 130 billion by 2024; according to a new research report by Global Market Insights, Inc.
The smart transportation market growth is attributed to the worldwide government initiatives for the smart city development. Around USD 1 billion of connected things are mounted across the globe under the smart cities projects. Smart transportation being an integral part of smart cities project provides a platform for connected vehicles. The mandates set by the government, such as Directive on Intelligent Transport Systems and Bharat Stage standards, to reduce the CO2 emissions and to protect the environment also provide an impetus to the growth of the smart transportation market.
Why the world’s first smart highway will most likely be in China
26 January 2019
China’s fast-paced growth has resulted in it being one of the most extremely flexible nations in terms of technological integration into existing infrastructure. With its relatively newer institutions and organizations, China can easily adapt existing infrastructure around current and potentially future technologies. Because of the rise of automated vehicles and their specific criteria, many have wondered how to properly establish specific infrastructure to support such technology. This is where China has an opportunity to thrive: Its more robust mechanisms for change have the capability to implement such technology on a large-scale, enabling smart highway and roads as the baseline for future infrastructure projects worldwide.
