STA General Assembly 1/2018 held on 27 February 2018

The first STA General Meeting of the year was held on 27 February.  It was the occasion for the Members to review the progress and achievements made during 2017, and in addition to agree on an ambitious work plan for 2018.

STA’s Technical Sub-Committee on Road Restraint Systems holds its first meeting in 2018

On 23 February 2018, STA’s Technical Sub-Committee on Road Restraint Systems (belonging to Technical Committee 2) reviewed the activities carried out since the last meeting held on 27 November 2017.

frontierCities2 Market Acceleration Grant (MAG) 2 call closed on 31 January 2018

Following the project’s consortium meeting held on 23 January 2018 and the subsequent two-day bootcamp hosted by STA at the B19 Country Club in Brussels, the Market Acceleration Grant (MAG)2 call closed on 31 January 2018.


Innovation efforts when designing safer transportation infrastructures, as well as when implementing the best possible safety solutions in the maintenance and modernisation of existing ones, will contribute to reduce transportation mortality and injury rates, with a special eye on vulnerable users.

Technology to improve the resilience of bridges

Bridges change shape, which is why they are usually built with expansion joints. At TU Wien, a technology has been developed that makes it possible to forego these joints, thus saving time and money.

STRABAG shows innovative way out of the diesel dilemma with Sustainable High-Tech Asphalt

STRABAG’s TPA competence centre has presented an innovative solution that can help cities fight the negative impact of increased traffic volumes. The joint R&D project NaHiTAs (Nachhaltiger High-Tech Asphalt – Sustainable High-Tech Asphalt) was demonstrated at the Conference on New Materials in Construction (HighTechMatBau) in Berlin on 31 January 2018. The team from TPA, which is leading the research project, showed how photocatalytic granulate and a low-noise texture in the asphalt can sustainably lower the impact of air pollution and traffic noise.

New pilot with SolaRoad technology for heavy vehicle traffic

The province of Noord-Holland is going to test the SolaRoad solar-surface for heavy vehicle traffic. After the successful pilot on a cycling lane in Krommenie, the municipality of Haarlemmermeer and the province are looking for a suitable location for heavy vehicle traffic to drive over SolaRoad. The pilot will test the behavior of the road surface for heavy traffic and what the solar-surface means for the daily management and maintenance of the road. In addition, the province will test how the energy-yield can be maximized.
